Harlan Inn and Suites by OYO Harlan

I was running late for a wedding in Westphalia ,IA, and the incredibly nice woman at the front desk offered to drive me there for free. That kind of hospitality is above and beyond. Best customer service I've ever had during a stay. Definitely booking again, it's a great place to stay!

I booked this hotel by accident through Priceline and couldn't get anyone to answer when I tried calling. The hotel's number goes to a cell phone. Priceline and I both kept trying for over 5 hours before someone finally picked up. The hotel staff wouldn't cancel for me, and I don't understand why they'd want someone to stay who didn't want to be there. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and drove over an hour to get there anyway. The room wasn't maintained to the standard it should be. The windows and sills were filthy, bits of trash were scattered around the floor, and the fridge was unplugged with white powdery stuff behind it. I just wanted to sleep, so I put up with the extremely flat pillows and went to bed. I got up at 8am to find breakfast, but there was nothing.

Friendly, quick service and a good night's sleep. It's a quaint, no-frills place, a little out of town, and more than adequate. The rooms are low-key and could use some updating. The older building makes it a bit noisy, though nothing too crazy. I'd pay an extra $10/night for a grab bag breakfast.

I've stayed here three times now, and when I'm within an hours drive, I won't go anywhere else. The owners are super nice, and the rooms have good beds and showers. It's just outside the city, so it's pretty quiet. A good place for the price.
