Harrington Welcome Inn

We were here for the DE State Fair, and the location worked out fine once we arrived, even though it looks a little rough on Google Maps. The room on the first floor, down the left hallway and last door on the right, looked newly updated and was really clean. I know some reviewers had trouble, so maybe the rooms vary in how renovated they are. The people were friendly, and I was pleasantly surprised by the room for the price. I expected basic accommodations, though I do wish the shower had shampoo and conditioner and breakfast were better.

We won't return. The beds were awful, and the room was dirty enough that we bought blankets and slept in our clothes because the sheets were stained and the top covers looked unclean. There was a deodorant cap on the bathroom floor that wasn't ours. My ten-year-old grandson checked for bed bugs and said the place didn't look clean. I'd rather sleep in the vehicle first.

The second person at the front desk apologized and moved me after I reported the state of my room. The first person who checked me in wasn't very engaging, and nobody mentioned the breakfast hours or anything about it, though I knew it was “continental.” Before I even opened the first room door, I noticed a strange smell. Inside, it seemed like musty cigarette odor, even though it was meant to be non-smoking, and the room looked completely uncleaned: dust everywhere and an unswept floor. The sheets I thought were stained actually had holes. The bathroom also didn't look properly cleaned, so I didn't shower there. I usually stay until checkout, but this time I left at 7 as soon as I woke up, still in the clothes I'd arrived in and slept in.

The room was clean, quiet, and the staff were really friendly. I arrived in town hours before check-in and was asleep in my car on a hot summer day when a woman noticed me. She got my room ready herself, then tapped on the window to let me know I could check in early. She was pleasant throughout my whole stay.
