Super 8 by Wyndham Harrisburg Hershey North

Juan and Kat treated us with real kindness during nearly six months at this Super 8. My boyfriend and I have been displaced for almost a year through circumstances we couldn't control, and their understanding and willingness to work with us meant a lot. They helped make sure we didn't end up back on the street. Juan manages the day shift, and Kat works nights. Most of the time it was just the two of them holding the place together, with him working every day and her every night. Their hospitality mattered more to me than anything else I could complain about. This hotel was on the cheaper side, close to my boyfriend's workplace, and a big step up from the other hotels and motels we'd tried. Before that, we'd been through a lot: sleeping in a hot, humid tent only four days after my major abdominal surgery, when the conditions kept the wound from healing and infection set in with a 104 fever; hotel hopping so I could get enough air conditioning for my incision to heal somewhat; and sleeping in my car through the coldest part of winter when it wouldn't start and we had only blankets to keep warm. My wound took nearly a year to heal, though it should have taken half that or less. At the end of December, I had saved enough for a few nights here. Then terrible snowstorms came, and we wouldn't have survived them in my car, so a few nights became a week, then two, then a month, and now almost six months. The owner's lack of empathy, snarky tone, and disrespect were upsetting, and she should be ashamed of how she treats people. But two days ago, Kat left a beautiful bouquet outside our room. Nobody knew which room we were in, and I later found out she had bought the flowers herself just to be kind. I cried. It was exactly the gesture I needed. This is a new review, not one from 10 years ago. Despite other reviews I've seen, I give this place five stars because Juan and Kat's care outweighed anything else I could complain about. I'm grateful to them and to the kind people who still exist in this money hungry world. This is probably our last night here because of other circumstances, but we'll remember what they did for us.

On weekdays in the Greater Harrisburg PA area, this is a good value with good service. It's very basic, including the cable and breakfast, but it's wonderfully quiet on a weekday. Managers Juan and Cathy are excellent people.

The dirty looking carpets made us question how well the hotel was maintained, and the customer service was worse. The front desk staff were rude and unhelpful when we arrived. We didn't feel welcome, just uncomfortable and dismissed. We had paid for the room, but the service and condition were poor enough that we chose another hotel instead of staying at the Super 8. We were told the manager on duty was Juan Ortiz, but the representative helping us handled things unprofessionally and offered no support. Management needs to address both the service and the hotel's overall condition.

After traveling from Florida all day, we had one problem after another. The key wouldn't let us into the room, the table wobbled, a bathroom light was out, and the heat didn't work. We had to switch rooms, then found that the TVs only had one channel because they weren't working. They never offered a refund or discount. Don't waste your money staying here.
