Edgewater Beach Resort, a VRI resort

The room was very nice, the beach was conveniently close, and the amenities were well kept. We enjoyed the resort and would recommend it, but two things brought it down to four stars. We arrived after a nine-hour drive, tired and ready to check in, and the front desk curtly said, "You can't stay here." My wife's name was third on the account, not first, even though the timeshare representative confirmed we were part of it. Once we showed our reservation confirmation, the woman's manner suddenly changed. Starting off by treating us like we might be trying to scam a room felt ugly and put us in a bad mood. Do they run into that issue so often that they assume a married couple in their 50s is there to scam an overnight stay? We were there in late November, a quiet part of the season, and there were hardly any guests. With so many rooms empty, I don't understand why people were placed in second-floor rooms. The resort wasn't responsible for our upstairs neighbors being inconsiderate, but they banged on the floor and moved furniture for more than two or three hours most nights and early in the mornings, sometimes until almost midnight. They could easily have been put in one of the many available first-floor rooms.

Everything else was good, but the way the neighboring units are laid out was awful. Their bedrooms share a back-to-back wall, and I could hear the couple next door talking in bed. Horrible feeling!

For a motel, the rooms are okay, though some basics are missing, like regular window shades. There are fabulous amenities and a great sunset view. I found it mostly enjoyable in summer. We didn't have room service during our stay.

We were very happy with our stay in a one-bedroom room at Edgewater. It felt homey, and we loved the kitchenette and fireplace. The beach was within walking distance. I'd recommend it to any traveler, especially families with kids.
