The shared kitchen is spacious, and there’s complimentary coffee, snacks, and fruit. Our room was roomy and clean, with hardwood floors, a clean bathroom, comfortable beds, and a private deck looking out into the forest. Trees framed every window, while birds and rain made the place feel especially peaceful. The property was well kept, parking was easy on site, and the Wi-Fi worked well. It’s under a five-minute drive to Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park and Volcano Village restaurants, gas, and general stores. The Inn is set back far enough from the road to avoid noise. Check-in was simple, communication was clear, and the hosts responded promptly. The cleaning fee was listed on the booking portal before we reserved, so it wasn’t a hidden fee, despite what some reviews say. Good value for the area, and I’d recommend it to people visiting the National Park.

The room had rusty screws in the bathroom, dirt, and spider webs on the ceiling. The advertised breakfast wasn’t really there either, just a small selection of snacks and fruit in the kitchen. The accommodation didn’t match its description. We arrived during the official check-in window, but nobody was there to meet us. The doors were locked, and the only thing at the main entrance was a letter addressed to us. It said to contact the host on WhatsApp, and that we’d get the access code only after paying an extra USD 80 cleaning fee. That fee wasn’t shown in the Booking.com listing or during booking. With no alternative place to stay and the property closed to us, we felt forced to pay. The way this was handled felt very unprofessional. Later, the host wouldn’t take responsibility and blamed Booking.com, telling us to contact them ourselves for a refund. Being kept out unless we paid an undisclosed fee was completely unacceptable. The stay caused a lot of stress and frustration and fell far below a reasonable standard of hospitality. I’d strongly advise future guests to be cautious.

The room could use more lamps, as it was rather dim. Also, pay attention to what the booking website says, since the owner may charge extra fees. The host could greet guests more kindly instead of leaving them locked outside until they paid those unexpected charges.

My dad and I had a great stay. The proprietor was super friendly and helpful, and we enjoyed the cute shared kitchen and hangout area. Our room was spacious, with two beds and a beautiful view from the lanai. Recommended!

John was a very friendly host, and there’s a large common area plus a full kitchen guests can use if they want. The room was huge and very clean. It’s a beautiful spot in a quiet part of the forest, and I recommend staying here when visiting the Volcano.
