Hilton Hasbrouck Heights/Meadowlands

I’ve been staying here about once a month for three years. The rooms are clean, housekeeping does a good job, and the facilities are nice. The kitchen turns out good food, mostly from scratch as far as I can tell. Maria and Abdul at the bar are terrific, and most of the front desk CSR’s are helpful, though some of the longer serving ones can be a bit curmudgeonly, like me 😉. The hotel also has a steady crowd of professional pilots, myself included. The alarms are what make me hesitate to stay. I’ve been through 18 evacuations here, including one at 5 AM this morning. They’ve become so frequent that regulars sometimes mention hoping there won’t be another fire alarm that night. The piercing noise can go on for 1-3 hours, and it ruins your rest. If the alarms are false, it’s incredibly frustrating. If they’re real, you have to wonder why this happens so often at the property. When we’re outside in the cold, the answers are usually “we don’t know” or “it’s for your own safety,” which feel condescending and don’t help. I’d been sitting on this review for six months. While we waited outside for three hours today, a fireman told me the hotel generates more emergency calls than all the other hotels in the area combined.

The hotel’s location made it easy to get around, including to the Big Apple if you get the chance. I spent three nights here in June 2024 while attending the Schluter Systems Innovation Workshop Part II, sponsored by Schluter Systems North America. The rooms were spacious and clean, the bathroom had a particularly modern renovation, and the staff and service were excellent. A reunion dinner at the hotel made the visit even more memorable. Thanks for the kind reply. I hope to come back soon, either to see my nearby friend or for a business trip to NYC. I’d recommend staying here.

On November 15, I came back for a second one night stay. This time I was in room #923 on the west side. It was quiet and clean, pretty much like the first room. My first visit was October 4, 2025, also just for one night. Check-in was easy, and from the seventh floor east facing room I never heard the highway. There’s extra glass over the window to help with traffic noise from rte 80. The room had a coffee maker, a good TV, and a safe in the closet. Nice shower and a good sized bathroom.

My family and I were in New Jersey to bury my grandmother, so this was already a hard trip. The room didn’t look like the hotel’s description of “recently renovated.” It seemed worn, the pillows smelled unpleasant, and the shower had a damp, musty odor. I called the front desk soon after checking in to ask about changing rooms or cancelling, but the associate was dismissive and didn’t help. That night, my family in our second room had to leave because of a fire alarm that wasn’t resolved until early morning. They couldn’t safely stay inside and ended up sleeping in their car. The next day, there was no hot water at the property. Between the room, the disruption, the lack of hot water, and the way staff handled our concerns, the stay fell well below basic hospitality standards, especially for a Hilton. As a premium Hilton Honors member, I found it unacceptable and extremely disappointing.
