Super 8 Hastings

The room had a great bed, an easy-to-use TV, a full-length mirror as well as the bathroom mirror, plus a small fridge and microwave. It was clean and reasonably priced, with laundry on site and a small breakfast from 6 to 9:30 a.m. There’s also an espresso hut, a Fill and Chill, and a Dairy Queen within a five-minute walk of the front door.

The room was kind of rough, damp and dingy, with a musty smell. The location was good and close enough to walk to the lake. Breakfast was only waffles, no eggs, maybe eggs are too expensive nowadays.

The smell changed as we went upstairs: cleaning chemicals on the ground floor, then mold as soon as we reached the top floor. There was mold in the bathroom cracks and crevices, especially behind the toilet, where it looked like they’d painted over it because they couldn’t reach it. They need to fix the problem instead of covering it up. It seemed like the people running the place lived there, and they had small children. You’d think they wouldn’t want them breathing that in. Definitely not recommended.

I had booked one night as a stop during a trip, but had to cancel when my plans changed. The man who answered the phone was extremely rude and not helpful at all, and made some very unkind remarks to me. I’m glad I cancelled. If that’s how the staff treats people, I won’t stay here.
