The bar and eatery looked cheerful and inviting, open and well lit. It was nice to see something without the dark avocado, gray, and purple look, Courtyard, I'm talking about you. Parking was easy to find, plentiful, and in a well lit lot right across from USM, with shops adjoining. My room was quiet even though it was near the elevator, with no dings or thuds or kids running in the hall at 6am. There was room to play squash, a good work area, and a comfortable chair. The bed was the most comfortable I've slept in, with great support, crisp clean sheets, and pillows labeled by firmness. The whole property was clean, from the lot and lobby to the room, with no hairs in the shower or dirt behind the bathroom door. Even the clerk at 11pm was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I'm a Marriott Ambassador traveler, spending $30,000+ and staying 125 nights a year. After this stay, I've joined IHG Rewards, and Marriott can suck it. That's why.
The accessible room was a real plus: the roll-in shower was excellent, there was lots of room for a powered wheelchair, and accessibility was well above average. The restaurant staff were very kind too. Dinner was good and breakfast was okay, though they ran out of biscuits and fruit on the short menu during the last two mornings. It was a holiday, so I can't complain about slow breakfast service. The room itself was sparsely decorated, and the walls showed patches that made me wonder if pictures had been taken down for other rooms. My main concern was service. We had reserved an accessible King Suite for three adults, but it only had towels for two, and the sofabed had no sheets, pillows, or blankets. We skipped service on Thanksgiving morning. On the second morning, housekeeping said at 10am they wouldn't come back, so we took out our own trash and had to beg for towels. On the third morning they tried coming before 9am, too early for a Saturday, so we asked the front desk to have the room done while we were out for the day. Nothing was done, and we had to ask again for towels and trash bags. We never saw the GM, Tiffany Johnson?, and the lack of standards made me wonder if she ever did basic room walk-throughs after housekeeping. First impressions had been excellent, with ample parking, a good location, and an onsite bar-restaurant with good hours, but the stay went downhill after check-in. Management doesn't seem to be overseeing service, and this isn't up to IHG's Hotel Indigo standards. Save your money and go elsewhere until there is new management and a real service ethic. USM and its hospitality students are a stone's throw away. Just about any of them would put more energy into guest service.
Our wedding night was ruined when they gave away a reservation we'd made weeks earlier. They don't check IDs, and all I got was “sorry! Congrats tho”. I had also arranged room blocks by calling the hotel, but the sales team didn't set them up correctly. They said we had the bridal suit, but we didn't. Apparently online booking isn't guaranteed, so don't use it. The service was absolutely terrible. Don't book rooms or hotel blocks here.
The gym was really good, and there are plenty of food options within walking distance. I especially liked the high ceilings on the first floor. They made me feel like some rich person in their high-ceilinged mansion. Alas.
The beds were comfortable, even though the rooms were kind of small. The check-in was far more stressful than it needed to be. Courtney, a young woman on staff, was extremely rude. She kept looking at her phone and having side conversations, like I was an inconvenience. When I asked questions, she'd let out a long sigh before answering. As a tired mom who just wanted to check in, it was frustrating that she couldn't find my reservation while she was busy with personal things on company time. I've stayed at a lot of hotels, but this was by far the worst for customer service, 0/10.
