Healdsburg Inn on the Plaza, A Four Sisters Inn

The location made this such an easy Healdsburg getaway, with great places for lunch and dinner just steps away. We also really enjoyed the cozy, comfortable room. Each afternoon there was wine and charcuterie, and the complimentary breakfast was delicious and changed from day to day. Service was wonderful, and we loved our stay at the Healdsburg Inn on the Plaza.

The location is the Healdsburg Inn’s strongest point. It’s across from the plaza in historic downtown Healdsburg, CA, with restaurants, coffee shops, tasting rooms, bike rentals and transportation all close by. Vineyards just west of town are an easy walk too. Pamela and Vanessa at the front desk were friendly and helpful. Pamela shared tips about town and the surrounding area, and Vanessa tried to fix our thermostat. The interior has a nice historic feel despite what looks like a recent renovation, with high ceilings, gas fireplaces and a second-floor breakfast room overlooking the plaza. There’s also a wine tasting at the hotel, a nice fit for the town. Breakfast was ample, though not extensive; some mid-priced budget hotels offer a bigger buffet. Two major problems brought down our rating. There’s no hotel parking. We used the Air Garage behind the building and found it easy with our account, but the daily charges came to nearly $100. At a room rate above $500, paying extra while also worrying about finding a space was irritating. We were fortunate to spot someone leaving one of the few loading spaces when we arrived, and later got the last spot in the garage. Otherwise we might have circled town looking for somewhere to park. The hotel’s back gate into the garage did save us a walk around the block, but the parking situation needs work. The other issue was the lack of facility support. On our first night, the heat wouldn’t turn on and the air conditioning kept cycling cold air. The thermostat controls made no difference. The on-site innkeeper couldn’t reach anyone who could help, so we blocked the vents near the bed with extra blankets and towels. Vanessa replaced the thermostat batteries the next morning, but that didn’t help either. It stayed around 60° both nights. It wasn’t the end of the world, but a hotel at this price, or any price, should be able to fix it. Management should consider having a 24x7 facility support firm on call.

Our room was roomy and clean, and we had a great stay. Such a cute bed and breakfast, too.

Across from the city plaza, this is a very nice hotel. The rooms are lovely, and we enjoyed both the breakfast and the wine and cheese. There are plenty of great shops and restaurants nearby.
