The Inn at Silver Lakes

The front door was locked when my wife needed to leave early for an appointment. I should have contacted the Fire Marshall. When I later mentioned it at checkout, the attendant said I was mistaken and should have called her using the number posted on the door, on the outside of it. There was no one at the desk when we arrived, and the room badly needed remodeling. Paint was scratched, chipped, or missing, and the carpet was dirty. The shower head was nice, but the tub, sink, and rest of the bathroom were awful. The TV barely came through, with so much snow it was unwatchable, and the pool was lime green. The attendant also wanted the second key card back by 2 pm. My wife had taken it because she was worried she couldn't get back in, so I said we'd mail it. She replied that it wasn't her problem and she'd charge us $25 if it wasn't returned by then. We were the only guests, so I couldn't see why they were worried about running out of cards. I said I'd ask for a $25 credit since we couldn't use the pool. She refused, saying we wouldn't have been able to use it by the time we checked in anyway. Everything I raised got a 'you're wrong' or 'not my problem' response. I was furious, and my daughter had to pull me toward the car. I'd never recommend the Inn. This review is about the Inn, not the restaurant.

There are plenty of places to eat and golf nearby, and local shops, a post office, pub, shopping, and a community center too. The views from our spacious room were spectacular, and it had a full kitchen with a small stove and fridge. Walking around was great exercise. The golf shop staff were especially friendly and helpful. It's a nice spot for some rest and relaxation, though no one was in the management office. Only local residents can access the beach, lake, and park. The pool wasn't open or available for swimming. There is a small room with a pool table and a movie area in the central lobby. Sightseeing spots are about a two-hour drive away.

The room had air conditioning, which was one good thing. Everywhere else, including the hallways, game room, and lobby, was as hot inside as it was outside, like an oven. Nothing seems maintained, the pools were dirty, and the hot tub didn't work. The restaurant was supposed to be on site, but we had to drive because the current one was under construction. I also couldn't find anyone at the service desk when I needed help. They were meant to fix my chair and light, but never came. There's more I could say, but basically, don't come here.

The service was quick and friendly, and the portions were big. I've been to the Silver Lakes Inn and Restaurant three times and tried the fish tacos, salmon dinner, and happy hour nachos. The nachos were huge and only $6. Everything I've had was good, and the prices are reasonable. We really enjoyed our visit.
