Herington Inn & Suites

The room was great, and the place was clean and well kept. It’s inexpensive and outside of town, which worked well for me while passing through. The folks running it were friendly. I’ll stay again next time I’m headed that way.

The room across the hall where my mom stayed was dirty too. The broken front door I’d read about in a review from about a month earlier was still that way, and the hallway walls needed cleaning. Breakfast wasn’t much, and anyone with tummy issues will need to find somewhere else. The hotel’s outdated, which I don’t really mind, but it needs a very deep clean. It was the grossness that made me want to sleep in my car. My family and I visit Herington when we can because my brother is buried at Sunset Hill cemetary. We stayed at this hotel years ago and it was really nice, with no complaints at all. This past weekend was so different that I don’t think we’ll ever stay there again. The staff weren’t very friendly. Our room smelled like a petting zoo, and it looked so dirty that we checked for bed bugs. There was a big bug smudge on the wall, with its legs still there. The smoke detector’s battery compartment was open and empty. There were boogers and dirty hand smudges on the bathroom wall, and the vent was caked with dust and rust. There was food or something on the nightstand handle, and inside the drawer I found a crushed, empty cigarette pack. Maybe that explains the smoke detector battery?

The pizza place next door was there, but there wasn’t much else around, and the town itself doesn’t have much either. We stayed here for a wedding a few years ago, so I hope things have changed since then. The rooms were a good size, and the beds weren’t that old and were okay for comfort. The front door was broken even back then. If glass is the issue, they need to use something else. The staff weren’t very friendly or helpful. The rooms were fairly clean, but everything felt worn out: the carpet, the walls that needed paint, and the old, yucky furnishings. Breakfast was hardly anything. It’s not a horrible hotel if you have nowhere else to stay, but it isn’t the kind of place I’d usually choose. Some people don’t mind that stuff, but I do.

Friendly atmosphere, clean and fresh rooms, and perfect service. I’ll stay here again whenever I’m passing through.
