Hotel Hermosa

The lobby and outdoor areas are spacious and well kept, parking was easy, and it’s reasonably walkable. We were there for an event and the staff were accommodating. It’s a cute boutique hotel with a lovely view. Our family suite layout was a little unusual, especially with no bathroom upstairs. The furniture showed some wear, but nothing serious. I called down for another pillow and got no answer, so I went to the desk and asked in person. They gave me one then, but it was strange that nobody picked up. The balconies also had no chairs.

We ended up leaving, which we’ve never done at a hotel before, because this stay was so bad that we couldn’t enjoy our anniversary. We had wine but no corkscrew in the room, so we had to open the bottle at the front desk and drink from cheap plastic cups. There wasn’t a glass anywhere. A dog barked whenever we went back to our room. Its owner kept pounding on the door after apparently forgetting his key, then spent ages shouting for his partner. We also couldn’t get Wi-Fi. The front desk tried to help, but it never worked.

The $30 nightly parking charge is part of the cost, and when I factor it in, this is still often the best value for me. Hotel Hermosa is my first choice when I’m in Southern California for work, though I rotate among three Hermosa Beach hotels depending on price. I’ve been coming here for years and will be back soon, whatever number stay I’m up to now, maybe 23. The location works well for me: about a 10-minute walk to the water, near LAX, easy enough to get downtown, and convenient for heading east. My stays have been consistently good, with clean rooms and a generally quiet property. Thanks, Hotel Hermosa, for being pretty great.

The rooms are tiny, though the hotel itself is fine and in a good spot. What really bothers me is charging $14 for Wi-Fi after just one complimentary day. It’s 2026 in Los Angeles, and that feels absurd. Raise the room rate a few dollars if needed instead of nickel-and-diming guests. Cheaper hotels have stopped doing this, and honestly, it feels disrespectful.
