Arlo Midtown

The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was a good size, and our city view was beautiful. The room itself was small, as you'd expect in New York, but it felt cozy rather than cramped. We came for our anniversary and the hotel upgraded us and left a little treat. Staff were welcoming, the lobby smelled lovely, and the elevators were incredibly convenient, despite what I'd read in other reviews. The location was great for walking to theatres, food, and Times Square. I'd absolutely book here again on our next New York trip.

The views from the rooms and rooftop terrace are incredible, with sightlines from the Empire State Building to Hudson Yards. Rooms are small, which is expected in midtown, but clean and efficiently arranged. Front desk staff were polite and professional. The one snag during our visit was that the key cards weren't working, so security had to let us into our room and operate the elevators.

The room was tiny, as expected, but clean and sensibly laid out, with a huge TV and a really comfortable bed. Housekeeping missed clean towels on one of our four days, and another day didn't come until 5:30 PM. They also didn't leave shower caps or many extras, though the front desk got us what we needed in under five minutes. Staff were very friendly, which matters to me. The hotel has a modern feel, a good bar and lounge, and a shop for snacks and drinks. Its location is convenient for pretty much anything nearby. The elevator setup is neat: tap your room card and it assigns your elevator and floor. We never waited more than 30 seconds across dozens of rides. One thing that surprised me was that nobody offered to bring our bags up, even though we'd left them in storage while exploring before check-in. They have a bellhop and carts, so I expected an offer. The stay was pleasant, pricing was in line with other nearby hotels, and I don't have any major complaints.

We were in town with family for a show, and the hotel was a good value for the location, amenities, and atmosphere. It’s an easy walk to Times Square, Bryant Park, The Vessel, the Lyric and other theatres, with Port Authority just a couple of blocks away. Our two-double room was 200 square feet and under US$200 a night. It was clean, with a decent view and a small but attractive bathroom in a modern-rustic style. The big window had a cushioned seat and a little metal desk. There were charging points by the beds, though one didn't work, and extra outlets at the wardrobe, which also had a mini-fridge. A safe was under one bed, and casting my iPhone to the TV worked fine. The Arlo also has a restaurant, café, bar, and a well-equipped gym. I went up to the rooftop bar on a snowy day when it was empty; it looked like somewhere I'd enjoy having a relaxed drink in warmer weather. The seating by reception was nice for lounging with coffee and snacks from the café's candy bar. There are meeting rooms that sometimes host public events too. I'd consider booking here again.
