Residence Inn by Marriott Miami West / FL Turnpike

I'm just frustrated. I booked this room many days ahead, and it's Valentine's weekend, so finding another hotel at the last minute isn't really an option. I tried to check in early and understood when they said no rooms were ready. They asked me to come back in an hour. When I did, I was told again that there was no room and to check back at 2pm. After 3pm, still nothing. They said there had been many late checkouts and asked me to wait another 45 minutes. Meanwhile, I was sitting in the lobby watching other guests check in. It has been a long day of wasting time waiting for a room. This hotel won't be a choice for me in the future.

The front desk was very nice to us, and even let us have breakfast when we arrived at 5am, long before the usual 3pm check-in. Great hotel for the price. Clean sheets and towels are a Marriott hallmark, and they were up to that standard.

The room looked great, smelled good, and was clean. On the first day, the front desk service for me and my team was great too. Breakfast, the lobby, and the breakfast area were all nice. Then we ran into two problems. The room's electricity is set up oddly. If you switch off the kitchen light as you come in, several other lights stop working: the one by the bed, the lamps hanging from the bed, three lights near the kitchen, and the closet light. The GFI in the bathroom also wouldn't reset. The laundry setup was frustrating for a higher end hotel that otherwise has digital everything. I don't carry cash because it's 2025, but only one washing machine took a credit card. We managed to get six quarters for the dryer, but it wouldn't close all the way like a normal dryer should. I brought different issues to different staff members. One person said, and these were their words, "People like to complain at night." That's the kind of service I'd expect at a 1 or even 2 star hotel, but here we are.

The staff were very friendly, and Christian at the front desk was extremely nice. But the room condition was wild. On the way there I saw a chicken bone in the hallway. My shower had mold and hair on the wall, so I was moved to another room. There was food on the ceiling and stuck to the light fixture in that one. The bottom of the bathroom door had serious water damage. I travel for a living and have stayed at lots of hotels. This place needs some work. Very friendly staff though.
