Baymont by Wyndham Hickory

The room was clean and the staff was somewhat polite, and the location is close to downtown. But the rooms facing the major highway get a lot of traffic noise from before sunrise until around 8 a.m. I booked through the Baymont Wyndham website and saw no mention of a $100 incidental deposit. When I asked, the employee said it was in case I took towels. I said I didn’t have another $100 and wasn’t going to steal towels, so a manager got involved. In the end they took a $50 deposit and required an inspection before returning it. I didn’t like being treated like a thief, and I wouldn’t recommend this motel.

The free hot continental breakfast was a nice extra, and the rates are affordable. My room was clean and pleasant, and room service was quick with fresh towels and cleaning. The staff were so nice and polite. I had a wonderful stay and would recommend this hotel if you’re in the Hickory area.

I’d look at the other hotel on the same block. I stayed here almost a week, and when I sat in the main lobby for a bit to get out of my room, the bald man kept questioning me and telling me to move even though he knew I was staying there. A few days after I went back to my room, stink bugs kept getting in. Then the same man knocked on my door the next day and woke me up to ask if I was staying longer. He said they’d run out of rooms and wanted to know if I’d check out two and a half days early so he could give mine away. It was a hassle, and I think the other place down the street may have better service.

The clerk at the front desk was really nice, but being told not to bring food to our room probably should have been a warning. My fiance and I found gaps around the door, mold in the shower caulking, and part of the baseboard pulled away from the wall, leaving a big hole. We figured it was manageable for a couple of days. The next morning a roach ran out of that hole and under the fridge. We pulled the fridge out to check, and it was a German cockroach. We packed up and asked for a refund, but were told that wasn’t possible. They offered us another room, so we moved. I know pests can happen in hospitality, but if you’re anxious about them like I am, Baymont by Wyndham probably isn’t the best choice.
