Holiday Inn Express Hickory-Hickory Mart by IHG

The room was clean and comfortable, check-in was easy, and the shower had steady hot water and good pressure. The cleaning staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was the letdown. We arrived at about 8:45, 45 minutes before the stated 9:30 end time, but most trays were empty or held old food. When we asked whether more would be brought out, the front desk attendant said nothing would be refilled because it wouldn't be ready before breakfast ended. I understand there is a cutoff, but guests should be able to get fresh food until the advertised closing time, not only if they come early.

The breakfasts were fresh and hot, and Dedra, the manager, was very hospitable during our four-day stay. One problem was an employee smoking right by the entrance. The smoke affected my breathing. Even though it was raining, she should have arranged for someone to cover her station and smoked somewhere customers don't walk through. You can contact me if you need her name.

I really enjoyed my short stay. The rooms were clean and modern, check-in was quick and easy, and the breakfast had a surprisingly wide range of high-quality choices. The quality was outstanding for an affordable rate, especially using AARP travel.

The room's appliances and outlets all worked properly, and the bed was very comfortable. The hotel was clean, well maintained, and the staff were friendly. Great job to whoever manages the property.
