We had to make do with opening the window because there were no other rooms available here or nearby while Rhinebeck was going on. That left us choosing between cold air and the cigarette smell, since the heater didn’t work. The window was so loose it actually came off its hinges, which wasn’t reassuring. The room smelled strongly of smoke, and we’re both very allergy-prone, so we asked to switch rooms. The receptionist, who smokes, came in and said it smelled clean. When we arrived, we’d already been told we were getting one king bed instead of the two queens we booked because of sewage problems. We tried several times to speak with a manager, but neither of the two women acknowledged our concerns. They offered two free coffees at the nearby restaurant, and we eventually got a $20 discount. The stay was very disappointing.

The staff were really friendly and helpful, and the room looked and smelled clean. It was a simple, no-frills place at a very reasonable price. I’d pictured The Bates Motel because it cost so little, but I got more than I expected. I’d stay again.

The bagel spot where you redeem breakfast is very good, and the price here is great. I’ve stayed a few times, and the staff running the place are very nice. The room, towels, and sheets have always been clean. Everything is within about 15 minutes.

Bagel Bites cafe was a treat. The bagels and coffee were delicious, and there are plenty of other choices too, from burgers, including a vegan burger, to salads and the usual eggs and hash browns. The voucher covers $3.50 toward whatever you order, so a bagel and coffee fit within it, and you pay the difference if you choose something more. Everyone there was pleasant. We were coming back to Poughkeepsie, where we went to college and have friends, but everything we tried between there and Fishkill was booked. The manager or owner was lovely on the phone and found us two rooms next to each other without charging extra, even though one normally cost more. There were five adults and two kids, and the setup worked perfectly for us. At 11 at night, the hotel was still easy to find. We walked down to the Hudson River walkway and did a five-mile round trip so the kids could get their wiggles out before the next day’s drive. It’s not a resort, so don’t expect fancy extras, but everything worked, it was clean, and it seemed to have been redone within the last couple of years. You can see it’s had some hard use, though the bathroom fixtures and furniture were new and everything was cared for. One room had laminate flooring, the other carpet. Some neighbors seemed to live there long term, and they were friendly. One woman shared good walking spots. We brought our own pop-up bed for the baby because we’d been told in advance that there were no cribs. The Kidco Peapod packs beautifully. I’d stay here again if we were on this side of the river. It’s close to the mid-Hudson bridge and easy to get to.
