Comfort Inn & Suites Near Mt. Rushmore

Hill City made a comfortable home base, with a pleasant main street, a few good restaurants, cute shops, and the 1880 Train. It didn’t feel like being stuck in a tourist trap. Devils Tower, Custer, Mtaccessible, Crazy Horse, Rapid City, Sturgis, and Spearfish Canyon were all accessible from there, making the whole region easy to explore. I was extremely happy with the hotel and our six-night stay. The whole place was very clean. Breakfast was kept up no matter what time we came down, since our schedule changed with our activities, and they cleaned our room every day.

Breakfast was outstanding, especially the waffles, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. Our room was cleaned every day, and the hotel was close to attractions while still being quiet. We did have a little one upstairs who liked to jump. As a grandma, I just smiled. Highly recommend.

For five nights we were mostly satisfied. The room was clean, and I’m picky about that. The quiet location felt safe, the price was better than in more touristy areas, and the staff were all very friendly. The on-site laundry was clean and affordable. I also liked the room’s mini-fridge, which had a good-sized freezer. The king bed was just okay at best. The shower was clean, but the pressure was awful, and the bottom felt like standing on ice. I nearly fell several times. Breakfast was sparse and not hot, and the coffee machine was broken on more than one morning. It wasn’t clear how to get room service, so I took out our trash myself and asked for towels. They seemed stingy with towels. The walls are paper-thin. Our first night, the neighbors were either partying or fighting, and throughout the week people seemed to use the ice machine outside our room all. night. long.

I’ll pay closer attention when booking in the future, and I won’t consider this hotel again, or any place showing so little kindness and compassion. We had reserved a room here for our last night in South Dakota, but while hiking in the Black Hills my wife fell and hurt her wrist and knee, along with scrapes and bruises. After a painful night and a doctor’s advice, she decided she wanted to go home, so we tried to cancel. No one answered for 20 minutes. When we finally got through, they said they had a no-cancellation policy and would make no exception. I explained what had happened, and they told me to try Choice Hotels. I’ve been a Guest Privilege member for 30 years and have never been treated this way. They didn’t ask how she was or show any concern about our situation. They only seemed concerned about the $140 room charge.
