The Hotel B

For the price, this was a very good hotel. The room was clean and updated, with a comfortable bed and a fresh-feeling bathroom. Our only issue was the hallway, which looked worn down, with damaged carpet coming loose in places. It didn’t affect the room, though.

The pool was a real disappointment. It was dirty and smaller than the photos suggested, and the seating area was so grimy I sat on gum that ruined my pants. Breakfast was okay, but the space was tiny, and for both mornings we had to take our food back to the room because every table and seat was taken. The hotel is old and needs remodeling to feel more comfortable. We’re a family with six children, and they rarely have opinions about hotels, but they were disappointed that I chose this one. At check-in, staff didn’t greet us; I had to get their attention. We asked for extra blankets and pillows and were refused. There are no elevators, so moving my baby in her stroller up and down the stairs was difficult. I can’t imagine how someone with special needs would manage if all the ground-floor rooms were booked. It was the cheapest option in the area for a nearly last-minute booking, but I wish I’d found an honest review like this first.

We got back from a full day out at 10:15 p.m. and were glad the hot tub stayed open until 11, so we could relax before bed. The beds were soft and comfortable, even for my picky husband, and the curtains blocked the light well. The continental breakfast had lots of options. The staff were very nice and accommodating. We had a small booking problem of our own, and they did everything they could to help us fix it. They were laying new carpet during our stay, but it smelled good and was taped down safely, with no tripping hazards. We usually stay somewhere nearby and save $15 to $20, but the upgrade was worth it.

The staff were great, friendly, and ready to help. The room was another story: old, run-down, uncomfortable, and stuffy, with an air conditioner that didn’t work. Several TV channels had no sound, and the cabinet door was broken and hanging loose. It feels like they patched things up and added pretty bedspreads before renting out the rooms. I’m very disappointed.
