Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Knoxville Clinton

The staff were super friendly, and the spot is convenient, with a gas station, Taco Bell, a restaurant, and Walmart nearby. My room wasn’t very clean, though. There were things left in the closet by the previous guest, the bathroom needed attention, and I spotted a few stink bugs. I was in a hurry and didn’t call the desk, though I expect they would have moved me since everyone was so nice. Probably a one-off based on the other reviews, but check your room as soon as you get in.

I only kept trying to book here because my extended family already had rooms and we were in town for a funeral, hoping to stay together. After several failed attempts by phone and online, I finally got a reservation online. The hotel had said the new system was having problems and they couldn’t book over the phone. Later I checked what I thought was an upcoming stay and saw it had been changed to a one-night booking for the day I made it. I was charged for two rooms and marked as a “no show.” The confirmation email arrived after the cancellation window had passed, so there was no way I could have canceled in time. When I called to book the correct dates, they refused to refund me, saying that’s what confirmation emails are for. They could have refunded me and made a new reservation, but chose not to. Every staff member I’ve dealt with has been rude.

The breakfast was a nice surprise, with chicken and eggs instead of the usual hotel food. The rooms were clean, and the staff were great. It’s right by the highway, with gas stations and restaurants close by. I’d stay again if I needed to be in the area.

They even left a handwritten birthday card for me, which was a nice touch. I was on my way to Asheville for my birthday, and the service from every level of staff was the best I’ve had at any Marriott property. The next morning, while I worked in the breakfast area, people checked several times to see if I needed anything. I really appreciated the hospitality and would recommend stopping here.
