This was my second visit. The hotel is handy for restaurants and shops, and it was a pretty typical stay, with some things okay and others below par. I slept well, though the bed wasn’t the softest, and the shower had very low flow. They still have tubs, while I’d rather have a stand-up shower. The front entrance means carrying luggage up a flight of stairs to reach the lobby, which isn’t accessible if you have a lot of bags. There is a garage at the back with an elevator.

I had a confirmed reservation, but checking in after a late flight and after dark was alarming. There was nobody at the front desk, no sign, bell, or phone number to reach staff. I tried the emergency phone outside to call the lobby and called the hotel repeatedly from my own phone. I only got into the building because another guest happened to arrive and use their key card. The lobby was empty, and I waited a long time without seeing any staff. The front office door was unlocked, with room keys, personal belongings, computers left on, Amazon packages, and items for sale all exposed. The kitchen area was empty too. The lack of help and basic security felt extremely unsafe and unprofessional. I wouldn’t recommend staying here if you’re arriving after hours or expect normal front desk service. I moved to the Holiday Inn Express about three miles away because of the lack of staff and security. The hotel later claimed I had no confirmation, which is wrong. My confirmation number was #3421506898, and I received a message saying, “See you soon, your reservation for Feb-06-2026 has been confirmed.” My reservation status had nothing to do with the lack of staff and security when I arrived. UPDATE: The Holiday Inn is amazing, with spacious rooms, high-end amenities including Dove bath products, and a place that feels extremely safe and clean. Do yourself a favor and skip the Hilton.

My work week at this Hilton Garden Inn was frustrating and concerning, especially because of the security problems. On my last day, a construction worker asked whether I’d left a side door open and explained that workers had been propping it open to avoid walking around to use the stairs. That gives anyone access to the stairwells and hotel hallways. Completely unacceptable. The hotel is under construction throughout, and getting luggage inside is awkward because the front entrance isn’t accessible. Guests have to park in the garage and take elevators that felt unsafe and were in terrible shape. Moving blankets covered the walls, the buttons barely worked even after repeated presses, and the elevators seemed close to breaking down. Parking was limited, and construction workers staying at the hotel took many of the guest spaces. There was also frequent marijuana smoking in the garage, which was unpleasant and inappropriate. I got a notice that staff would enter my room during the day to varnish the furniture, with a warning there might be a slight smell. When I returned after work, the room smelled like nail polish. Staff were hard to reach too. I called the front desk several times before finally getting through. One night, two dogs barked constantly. I waited to call and give it a chance to stop, but when I finally reached the desk, they said the owner was coming back. The staff member also reminded me quiet hours didn’t start until 9 p.m., which felt dismissive since it was already after 8 and the noise had gone on for a while. With the construction, bad elevators, parking and smoking issues, poor response, noise, and serious access concerns, this hotel didn’t meet basic expectations for comfort or safety. I wouldn’t recommend staying until the work is done and these problems are addressed.

After a 10-hour drive, we arrived and Sierra at the front desk welcomed us with real warmth and competence. She gave me helpful directions to restaurants and shopping so I’d be ready for my meetings over the next few days. I also enjoyed talking with Sheila, who cared a lot about the food and making customers happy. Deidra (sp), the bartender, picked just the right wine to help me unwind from the trip without feeling too overwhelmed about the next day. Even the housekeeper remembered that traveling with my twins might mean we’d need fresh towels and offered to replenish the room supplies. The staff deserve to feel proud of their work. My only disappointment was learning after booking through another party that breakfast wasn’t included. I was very pleased with my stay and plan to return for a personal vacation soon. Keep up the great work.

Once I figured out how to get there in daylight, the location seemed good, though highway noise carries to the front side of the hotel. The main problem was trying to find this HGI in the dark while driving east on HWY 278 from the West. There’s no sign or lighting at the turn onto Moss Creek from 278 East, and my GPS sent me right onto Moss Creek Rd just before a gated community. It was so dark and winding that it looked like a dead end, with no signs pointing to the hotel. I spent 15 minutes and made two U-turns before getting back onto 278 Westbound and spotting the hotel tucked in the woods. We eventually stopped at the Circle K, bought water, and realized the narrow road ran behind it to the HGI. The sign going west on 278 across the bridge from Hilton Head is lit and easy to see, so they should add signs at Moss Creek Rd, at the turn before the gated community, and by the Circle K. The hotel is in the last stages of a major decor change and renovation. Work is still underway on the 1st floor, while the restaurant and bar area is nearly finished.
