Kayenta Monument Valley Inn

Skip this place. It's too expensive, and nobody mentioned that the pool was out of service or that the Wi-Fi has apparently been down for over a year. They also didn't tell me this was the only place in Arizona that observes daylight saving time, so I missed breakfast at 8:05 by the time on my clock. The staff were rude. Really, I couldn't even get a stale bagel or toast five minutes after 9? The night before, I'd stayed in Flagstaff for half the price, with a pool, hot tub, sauna, Wi-Fi, breakfast, and nice, accommodating staff. Coming from a "nation" that can't keep its infrastructure up to date, the least they could do is treat the people doing the work nicely. I'd have been better off pitching a tent beside the road.

The pool was clean and nice, which is the only reason I gave this place two stars. The rooms were run-down and badly in need of updating, with plenty of repairs needed. There was no Wi-Fi, fridge, or microwave in the room, and the ice machine was broken. Service was uneven: one person was nice, while most of the others were pretty rude. The photos gave a misleading impression. We paid $178 a night, which is unbelievably ridiculous. The absolute most anyone should pay is $78.

The hotel looks lovely, and it could be top-notch with very little effort, but the amenities are extremely limited. Wi-Fi was down, so there was no TV, and there were no USB ports or microwave in the room. No breakfast, no coffee in the lobby, and the diner was closed too. My room stayed warm enough, though the heater had to run all night to keep it at 70. The staff were very friendly, and the room was clean and comfortable.

It's a quiet, basic place to stay near Monument Valley. The heater and air conditioner worked fine, and the plumbing was good, with hot water and drains that cleared quickly. Bring your own toiletries. There's a supermarket and fast food farther down the road. Cell internet is weak and there's no Wi-Fi, so if you need a solid connection, you might want to bring a Starlink terminal.
