The bathroom was still dirty hours after I reported it, and the service around that was the point where I gave up on the stay. I came back after nearly four hours to find the TV working, but the used towels and long dark hair were still there. I spent the rest of my workday trying to book the only other Marriott in Covington and packing up again. We left Wednesday afternoon, though we had checked in Tuesday evening for a stay through Sunday. We’re Platinum members, and they refunded the stay except for the pet fee, but refused to give us any points. We asked for the difference between what we would have earned there and what we’ll earn at the other Marriott. They charged us a pet fee even though the dogs made no mess, yet the bathroom wasn’t cleaned between guests. Just gross. We had to move rooms Wednesday morning after the first room’s AC started making a loud clang whenever it switched on. In bed, it vibrated like an idling diesel engine and shook the bed. There was also a cigarette smell that got worse overnight. I’d noticed it at check-in, but thought it might be because we were on the first floor and hoped running the air would clear the humidity and smell. I was exhausted, so I unpacked and tried to sleep. With two dogs, we got no sleep that night. The front desk arranged another room, and after packing, moving, unpacking, and settling the dogs again, I found the TV didn’t work. I thought it was just bad luck to have maintenance issues in both rooms. Then I went to shower and found a dirty towel over the shower curtain and a pile of long dark hair on the supposedly clean towels. I called the desk and asked for 15 minutes to get myself and the dogs out so they could clean the bathroom and fix the TV. I repeated that I needed about 15 minutes, but someone was banging on the door less than two minutes later. I was sleep deprived, frustrated, and getting emotional. I just wanted a shower and to get some work done. I took the dogs out and said I’d be back in about two hours; they said that was fine. Nearly four hours later, the TV had been fixed, but the bathroom hadn’t been touched. We requested a full refund and the points we would have earned. We’ll see what happens.
The gym was a nice surprise, and there’s even a basketball court. Breakfast was free and decent, with eggs, sausage, waffles, and an oatmeal bar with things like pumpkin seeds, walnuts, and cranberries. I was in town for a wedding and found the hotel clean and comfortable. The woman who checked me out was especially kind and had a great personality. Her name started with D, and she had short black and grey hair. The one downside was the AC. It was very loud when it came on, so light sleepers might have trouble. It also blew right at my face and made me cough in the mornings.
We stopped at this Residence Inn during a cross-country trip. The rooms were really clean and well equipped, the staff made us feel welcome, and breakfast was delicious.
The room itself was spacious, comfortable, clean, and very nice, but checking in turned the stay into a frustrating experience. I was traveling alone and using a combination of points and cash. My account is under my husband’s name, and although I’ve been a member for longer than I can remember, they wouldn’t let me check in with my Real ID driver’s license. They said people’s points were being stolen. They made my husband, who was at home, call a toll-free number to “transfer” points to me. The person there said, “we don’t do that.” He spoke to a supervisor, who said the same thing. They told him to tell the hotel he needed M8, but the staff had no idea what that meant. It took nearly 30 minutes to get checked in. Ridiculous.
Amanda on the service team is so helpful and really goes the extra mile. The other staff are phenomenal too. The rooms are clean and roomy, and you can unwind by the fireplace near the pool at night. It’s tucked away and very quiet, while still close to everything.
