Red Roof Inn Hilton Head Island

We come back year after year in the off season, when everyone goes back to Charlotte. It’s an old hotel, but VERY clean, with super friendly staff. There’s free coffee, and your first pet stays for free.

My wife and I come here often to visit our daughter, and the hotel’s affordability makes it easy for us to get to Hilton head more often. It could use some basic upgrades, but this trip brought a welcome change at the front desk. That had always been our one complaint: nobody seemed happy or helpful, and people were short with us. Then we met Sierra, who my wife adored. She was warm, easy to talk to, and clearly focused on helping guests. She even found us a blow dryer after we’d been told on several trips that they didn’t have any. She went above and beyond, and feels like a great addition. Hopefully this is the start of more good changes.

The location is beautiful and close to everything, and I like that this motel allows pets. But after staying at the Red Roof In on Hilton Head almost 8 years ago, when a clean, comfortable room cost $70 and included one free pet, I can’t believe what it’s become by January of 2026. Now it’s $100 a night, with roaches, foul-smelling rooms, dog fur all over the carpets, and chairs covered in cum stains. Is nobody vacuuming? The rooms are run-down, the decor is terribly outdated, lights are broken, the mattresses are uncomfortably ancient, and the staff have bad attitudes. I’ll never return, and I’ll tell everyone I know to avoid it. Being pet friendly means the rooms still need to be cleaned. Whoever runs this place has let it go down the drain, which is such a shame. I recommend shaking everything outside when you get home, because you may take roaches back with you.

For the price, the room was decent, and I liked having a microwave and fridge. The place was very well kept. Sierra at the front desk knew the island and had helpful suggestions for things to do, and she helped us with the room. She even walked there with us to check that everything was to our expectations. My mother-in-law had plenty of questions, and Sierra answered every one without hesitation. On earlier visits, we hadn’t had this kind of front desk service. She was a genuinely lovely person to meet.
