TownePlace Suites by Marriott Hobbs

I arrived at 9 pm at the last minute after a really bad experience somewhere else in town, and this place turned things around. The staff member who greeted me was so personable, even that late. My room was spotless, smelled nice, and had no carpet. The floor was swept, and the bathroom and kitchen were clean too. I even noticed little stickers on the paper towels showing they’d been checked. The mattress was clean as well. Breakfast had a good variety, they refilled things quickly, and the little breakfast sandwiches were delicious.

We’re frequent Marriott guests and usually prefer the chain, but the service on this short trip let us down. The room itself was fine. At the desk, I got attitude when I said hello because nobody was there and there was no bell. I’d requested early check-in in the app, but when I asked about it, the response was basically, “What for?” We were also checked out well before the stated time and couldn’t get back into the room. The attendant blamed both key cards on electronics; the replacement didn’t work either. When I went down a third time, she handed me another card without saying anything.

As a frequent traveler, I have plenty of other lodging choices in Hobbs, and I won’t stay here again. The way the pricing works feels like poor value for someone traveling alone. The regular rate seems almost twice what comparable competition charges, then contract groups like oil services groups get discounts. There’s also a mess in the parking lot: the trees seem to attract thousands of birds, and their droppings cover the cars. Checking in was awful too. I waited about half an hour for something that should have taken two minutes. The front desk person gave me a disdainful look, no welcome, and said she was too busy, while she searched the hotel for extra soap for an employee of a sister property. She didn’t care about my Marriott status and demeaned me. When I made her uncomfortable, she threatened not to check me in. I felt no respect as a paying guest, and other reviews seem to describe the same unwelcoming feeling at this expensive property.

Everyone else, including the late night staff and housekeepers, was amazing, which makes this especially disappointing. Today, Oct 6, 2025, around noon, the front desk lady said her name was Ana and we were kicked out. She’s very slim, with long black hair that’s sometimes curly but usually straight. There was a misunderstanding about our extended room. When we tried to explain, she wouldn’t listen and kept laughing. We asked to speak with her manager, but she wouldn’t let us explain the situation to him. I’ve met the manager and he’s very nice and attentive. I’m positive she never passed along our message. We gave her our number, but still haven’t had a call. We pay about $4000 a month and were planning to stay until next May. It’s a shame she handled it so nastily, and they’ve lost a customer. Three hours have passed and the manager still hasn’t contacted us to find out what happened.
