Holiday Inn Fort Lauderdale Airport by IHG

We were in the lobby while the manager handled a string of calls, probably 30, from someone asking to be picked up at the airport. He stayed respectful and never raised his voice, even though the caller was at Miami airport, 65 miles from our Fort Lauderdale airport area location. Great manager.

I've stayed here several times over the last six months, and the staff and location are what keep it memorable. Mornings have been the highlight for me. Lynda makes breakfast feel welcoming, and she works hard to keep everything tidy and in order. It's a lovely way to start the day.

The front desk service was attentive and really good, and my server was sweet too. The problem was the kitchen: they served rotten, stinky meat and seemed not to care about the danger of serving expired food. I sent the plate back, then waited another 40 minutes for food that still hadn't arrived, so I had to leave. They didn't seem to care at all. The hotel itself is nice. I gave two stars because the front desk girl and server were so nice, otherwise it would've been minus zero.

The room's shower was hard to switch between faucet and shower, and it wasn't working properly. I might have asked to move, but it was very late and I was exhausted. I also booked this hotel because breakfast was advertised, only to be told at checkout that they don't serve it. If that had been made clear, I'd have stayed somewhere else. At checkout I waited around eight minutes while three employees worked behind the desk. One was training someone else, and another saw me waiting but ignored me. When I first arrived, I watched staff treat guests in line rudely and dismissively. They spoke so quickly and unclearly that people struggled to understand, and staff didn't seem willing to repeat themselves. There was little eye contact or basic courtesy. The whole stay was frustrating, and I can't recommend the hotel.
