Gavin On The Beach

We stayed nine nights in late September and early October, and it was amazing. The hosts, Rob and Dale, were genuinely lovely, friendly, and accommodating. We felt so welcome, and we’re hoping to stay at Gavin again in Feb 2020 if they have availability. The studio was spacious but still cozy, with an incredible beach view. It had a fully stocked kitchen and bathroom, plenty of towels, beach gear, and even starter supplies of water, fruit, coffee, and cookies. The A/C got wonderfully cold, and the bed was so comfortable I was sad to go home and sleep in my own. We also enjoyed meeting the other Gavin-goers.

My wife and I left at 8 PM after finding another place to stay at the Marriott nearby on Hollywood Beach. We called the owner at 11 that evening and again at 9:02 the next morning, explaining what was happening and saying we were checking out. He never called back. His claim that we didn’t check out, or that we slipped out in the middle of the night, isn’t true. The reason we left was what seemed to be a serious mildew and mold problem. We couldn’t breathe, and the place felt old, run-down, and unhealthy. The Marriott caused us no problems. We’ve been visiting southern Florida for 45 years and have encountered mildew once or twice, but rarely, and never anything like this. Don’t pay these people up front. Big mistake.

Being so close to the beach was hard to beat, and the owners were kind and attentive. We had an amazing stay and will definitely come back.

Robert and his partner are the nicest guys to run a hotel. They’re friendly, easygoing, and go the extra mile with all the little extras. We just love staying there.
