Regency Inn Hondo

The beds were stiff, uncomfortable, and noisy, and the faucets leaked. The towels felt like sandpaper. I was told the sheets are only washed once a week. It’s also known for roaches and scorpions. Makes you wonder who stayed there before you.

We’d just moved from Oregon and were caught between homes, needing somewhere for our family, pets, U-Haul, and several vehicles. Regency Inn welcomed us, and the staff were kind and friendly whenever we needed something or had questions. There’s a nice yard where the dogs can get out of the room, plus an outdoor area with barbecues and tables. Saying I’d recommend this place to anyone passing through is an understatement. We’ll use it again for family and friends.

I booked three rooms on their website, and we all paid in person at the hotel. When my son needed to check out early, they said they’d do it but wouldn’t refund the unused days because he’d paid online. That wasn’t true, he paid at the hotel. Then they said it was because the reservation had been made online, which it had, on their own website. Infuriating. Don’t stay here. They’ll find ways to keep your money. If you pay the $100 deposit, you won’t get it back. There are no other cars here, so everyone but us was smart enough to stay elsewhere. Lesson learned: don’t pick a place just because it’s the cheapest.

It was cheap and dog friendly, with a large grassy area out back. But the TV didn’t work, there were hairs on the sheets and a clump of earwax on the pillowcase, plus multiple bugs and spiders. The room was really humid, and the furniture, doors, and other things were falling apart. Next time I’ll drive to Uvalde, Bandera, or another nearby city instead.
