First Cabin International Hawaii

A step above a hostel, this pod hotel was clean and comfortable, and the location and value are both great. I'd come back and recommend it. More laundry capacity would help, along with somewhere to hang wet swimsuits and towels. White noise machines in the pod areas would also be useful for blocking sound.

The location is the only reason I'm giving this one star. I'm not sure why First Cabin gets such high ratings, unless expectations for pod and capsule places are low. There's no lock on my room, so my valuables have to go in lockers down the hall or come with me. Not convenient. The restrooms are disgusting, the amenities are out of order, and the beds feel like box springs. I'd leave, but apparently there are no refunds, so I'm stuck for two more days. Then someone's alarm went off at 3:30 a.m. and rang for 15 minutes before they shut it off. I couldn't get back to sleep. Otherwise, I'd give it zero.

The location is fantastic, but that's the only upside for me. I like Japanese capsule hotels and wanted to try this for my last two nights on the island. I stayed in the Business Class section. The pods look nice, but the beds have basically no cushion. I would've been more comfortable on the sidewalk. The bathrooms are cramped. Benches in the shower changing area and more space between the hair dryers would help. It cost more than the Hilton across the street where I'd stayed earlier on the same trip, and for that price this wasn't worth it. If location is all you care about, it works.

I really loved this place. Just know it's a capsule hostel, not a hotel, and it's on the building's 14th floor. The capsules are good quality, and the bathrooms and toilets are clean and well kept. The lobby is nice too, and the staff are friendly and ready to help. I liked the cozy, standard feel of the place. It's right next to Waikiki Beach, which helps make it a great deal in Hawaii for a solo traveler or even a couple. I'd definitely recommend it.
