Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach

The room felt hot and musty, with poor ventilation. The balcony door was locked and couldn't be opened. We asked for a fan to make the temperature and humidity more tolerable, and reported the problem to the front desk. They sent an engineer to look at the AC in room 812 and changed some settings on the panel, but it still didn't cool effectively. The location was great, but I wouldn't stay here again and would look at other independent hotels.

The staff really made this place shine. I was there for six nights for work, and the team moved me to a quieter room with a desk that worked better for me. The end of Waikiki was a good spot, quieter with less foot traffic, close to the zoo and beach, and easy to get onto the highway. Uber and Lyft were easy to get, though local cabs are good too. For the cost and what you get, it felt like a sweet spot among all the Waikiki options. Nearby food spots made it easy to grab meals, and the rental car business in the building was handy. The front desk also lends beach chairs and towels for free and has water bottle refills. Breakfast was okay, but by day five I was eating elsewhere nearby. It's an older property, though it doesn't really show its age. Beds were comfy; pillows were quite squishy and thin.

After a long flight, the room was a letdown. I booked through Expedia, and I don't feel the photos or reviews tell the full story. The room looked very different from the pictures. When I raised that with the front desk, saying I'd booked based on the photos, they said an upgrade to something similar would cost another $280+. The pool was also much smaller than it looks online, with photos that make it seem clearly bigger. The breakfast buffet was basic and items rotated rather than all being available each day. For example, one day there was beef sausage, another day chicken. If breakfast is your main reason for choosing the hotel, I wouldn't recommend it. Special requests or notes sent ahead were ignored, and most staff weren't especially friendly. Even getting a simple smile felt rare. The location is good, but for $10-$20 more a night, you can find better hotels that won't leave you disappointed after a long flight.

I spent a week here on vacation and had a great stay. The location was excellent, near the beach, markets, restaurants, and TheBus, with free beach towels and chairs to borrow. Rooms were clean, staff friendly, and breakfast was included. There was also self-service laundry and a 24-hour gym on the 3F. A couple of practical things: the elevators got slow around breakfast, so stairs may be easier if you can take them. The laundry room has three washers and three dryers and was often busy, so quieter hours might be better. Water pressure in the shower could feel a little weak depending on the showerhead setting.
