The building is tired, and the rooms badly need renovation. We stayed in room 1807 on the 18th floor. The carpet was so worn and dirty that we wore shoes and socks the whole time, especially around the fold-out sofa bed. The living-room bathroom had visible mold in the shower, and the unit felt untouched since the early 80s, maybe even the late 70s. I took photos. This isn’t a modern resort experience. The location and staff are the reasons for the three stars I’d give, or 3.5 if Google allowed it. You’re in the heart of Waikīkī, across from Halekulani and Outrigger, right by ABC and Roy’s, steps from the beach, and across the street from Orchids at Halekulani. It’s hard to beat if you want to walk everywhere. Leanne was wonderful. A gentleman I think was named Aaron, or maybe Eric, went out of his way to help me, even though he didn’t have to. I’m moving to Hawai'i, and his guidance and kindness meant a lot. The service deserves five stars. The Imperial has no restaurant or bar of its own. There is a speakeasy downstairs in the lobby area, separate from the hotel, and I went once during my three-week stay. It was good, but Waikīkī has so many bars to explore. If location, walkability, and warm Hawaiian hospitality matter most, this place may suit you. For modern rooms, updated interiors, or luxury finishes, it won’t. The staff and location carry the property, while the rooms need serious work.

The staff were amazing and helpful, and I can’t praise them enough. The area is great for walking to places, and the beach is a short walk away. For an inexpensive meal, try the misubi cafe next door; there’s also a bakery around the corner for coffee and a snack. I’d recommend the area and the staff, though the hotel has room to improve. It’s an older place, and the rooms need a major update. Some look like they’re from the 1990s, flat-screen TV aside. In my room, the bathtub was partly broken: step near the drain and the fiberglass shifted and snapped. I know that sounds grim, but you’re probably not here to spend all your time in the room.

We keep coming back to this as our favorite place in Waikiki. The staff are friendly and helpful, and valet parking is the best. The rooms are well equipped, with a full kitchen and all the basics. Housekeeping also has extras you can borrow, like a rice cooker, air fryer, or blender. The ocean is only half a block away, reached through or in front of the Sheraton Hotel.

We stayed for a week with our toddler and would gladly return. The location worked especially well for a family, with beach access around the corner and loads of restaurants and shops nearby. The service was great and the staff are lovely. The rooms are a little dated, but the amenities and price are hard to beat.

We spent 10 days at The Imperial Hawaii Resort and will absolutely be back. From arrival, the welcome felt genuinely warm and full of aloha, and the staff and locals we met stayed kind, helpful, and personal throughout. That aloha spirit felt real and made the trip memorable. The rooftop pool and deck were a favorite, with beautiful views in the sunshine and after dark when the city lights came on. Our suite was roomy, comfortable, clean, and well equipped, and the kitchen made a longer stay much easier. We also loved being able to walk to Waikiki Beach, restaurants, shops, and entertainment, then come back to a peaceful place at the end of the day. The resort has history and character, which adds to its charm. It felt welcoming and comfortable, with great amenities and good value in the heart of Waikiki. Mahalo for a wonderful stay!
