Holiday Inn Express & Suites Hood River by IHG

We had a fun time here! Everyone was kind, professional, and had a bit of personality. The young lady from Texas was a hoot to talk with, especially since I'm from Oklahoma. The rooms were nice, with comfy beds and a big bathroom. We made use of the swimming pool and hot tub too.

The room and bathroom were very clean, and I had a comfortable stay. The bed didn't seem queen sized to me, more like a full. Breakfast was my biggest complaint. It was supposed to run until 9:30, but by 9 the eggs and potatoes were gone, and staff said they wouldn't refill them. Breakfast is included in the room charge, so stopping service early on the main items felt cheap and unprofessional. If they don't want to serve breakfast until 9:30, they should change the hours instead of ending service early.

After three weeks, I still have no explanation or callback from the general manager about the $250 charge they put on a card from a previous visit. I booked the room through Expedia and thought it was a mistake. When I called, the front desk employee said such a charge was usually for major room damage. I asked for proof, but she said they don't share that. I was told to call again the next day, then that the manager was busy and would call if I left my details. I called three more times to say I was still waiting, and the manager had been there during several of those calls. No proof has been provided. They charged my card without telling me, and I believe it was illegal. We stayed four days, and I requested full housekeeping every day. It never happened once. They didn't change the sheets during our entire stay, vacuum, or clean or replace bathroom items. When I politely asked the housekeeper to help throw out pizza boxes from the night before, she gave me a horrible, disgusted look, nodded without taking out her earbuds, and didn't answer verbally. I have been a faithful IHG member for years, but this felt like scamming people out of money. I will never stay here again and will vehemently tell Hood River visitors who ask for recommendations to avoid it. Stay somewhere friendlier and more classy, with a real commitment to IHG's values.

The view from one side of the hotel is beautiful, but it wasn't worth what felt like a potential safety risk to me. I stayed one night as a solo traveler a few weeks ago, then transferred to the Best Western, where I've stayed multiple times and had excellent experiences. I'd been going back and forth for weeks about writing this, but I can't stop thinking about it. I wouldn't recommend this location to women or girls traveling alone. As I was leaving my room, three male employees were standing in the hall, apparently talking to a female housekeeper. I kept to myself and started down the hallway to load my car. One of the men made an uncomfortable, inappropriate comment. Then all three stopped talking and stared at me all the way down the hall. I stopped at the end and asked why they were staring. They kept at it until I reached the stairwell. I was so intimidated that I ran down the stairs with my heart pounding, afraid they might follow. I sat in my car for a few minutes, too scared to go back for the rest of my things. When I returned, I bolted up the stairs. They were still there but left me alone, maybe because I'd called them out before exiting the hallway. Having three male employees act that way toward a solo female guest who was just minding her own business was the most uncomfortable hotel experience I've had, even though I travel often and have usually had excellent stays. I worry about other women travelers and couldn't live with myself if I said nothing and something happened to someone less likely to speak up. If you stay here, stay alert and be careful walking around, especially at night.
