Thistledown on Oak

The service after checkout was unusually good. We’d left several unopened bottles of speciality beer from Double Mtn, just two blocks away, and after I texted the contact number, they arranged for me to pick them up the next day. Communication was great, which isn’t always the case with hotel text numbers. That’s what took this from a four-star stay to a full recommendation. The concept is delightful too: a historic building updated with new appliances and fixtures and a comfortable modern bed, then filled with antiquities. It’s easy to get downtown, the complimentary snacks are plentiful and high quality, and check-in works like a short-term rental with door codes and self check-in. Double Mtn also has great pizza and sandwiches.

This is my second stay, and we can’t wait to return. Right in the heart of town, it’s an easy walk to bars, pubs, and breweries. The rooms have original paintings and real antique decor that give them a magical feel. The beds are super soft, and everything’s been thought of, including a fully included minibar. Such an amazing experience.

We had dinner as a little buffet and watched Harry Potter with the fireplace going. The fire made the room warm and cozy, and the complimentary snacks were such a nice touch. It’s a lovely, unique room, with gorgeous art and thoughtful details throughout. You can tell a lot of care went into the design and decor. We’ll come back!

My husband and I spent three nights in the Emerald Juliet room and highly recommend this charming boutique hotel, styled around the 19th century and full of lovely treasures. It’s downtown Hood River, with shops and restaurants an easy walk away. We especially enjoyed dinner at Votum Restaurant, a fine dining spot just a few blocks away. For a memorable stay and meal in Hood River, we recommend both Thistledown on Oak and Votum Restaurant.
