Super 8 by Wyndham Houghton Lake

The room was a letdown. The floors were filthy and the bathroom sink looked untouched, though the bed was comfortable and the sheets were clean. The lobby and hallways were clean. The young woman at the front desk was extremely friendly and helpful despite the evening rush. The older lady working later at night didn’t leave the same impression, and I wasn’t impressed by anyone else. I was told the owners were renovating, but in my opinion, the staff need more work than the building. I didn’t get to speak with the manager. You’d expect people with decades more experience than the 20-year-old who checked me in to know what they were doing, but that didn’t seem to be the case.

You feel safe here, and I always do. This was a quiet stay with no issues. The pool has been renovated and is open 24 hours; there’s also a small kids’ play area, a large outdoor space for dogs, and a little nature trail out back. We’ve stayed many times while traveling “Up North.” We’re easy to please when it comes to lodging and have never had complaints. It’s no luxury hotel, but it is clean, comfortable, and conveniently next to the interstate.

The staff were amazing, patient, kind, and ready to go the extra mile to make the stay comfortable. The rooms were in decent shape, and the place seemed fairly clean overall. I did see the pool, but it was out of order and half full, with water that looked like it had been sitting there for a while.

We needed a place for almost two months after a small house fire. Everyone was fine and no one was hurt, though the damage was small but considerable. During our stay, all the staff were excellent: polite, professional, and there when we needed help. I’d recommend them for an overnight or weekend visit, or for a short-term stay like ours.
