I checked in late after work and a drive of over 650 miles. Gwen, the young woman at the desk, was pleasant and as thorough as she knew how to be. I don't think she'd been there long. I finally settled in around 3 a.m., then the room phone rang at 8, maybe earlier. The Manager, whose card said PJ, called. She had short black hair and glasses and looked Middle Eastern. Her people skills need work. She said she couldn't accept my Montana driver license because it didn't match the card and said “Not For Federal Identification.” I travel for work and use that license to check into about 97% of places, including hotels. She told me to bring another ID to the desk, then said I might have to leave. This was about five hours after check-in, and my card had already been charged for two nights. At the desk, she inspected my license and payment card. I also had my passport, credit cards, loyalty cards with my name, and pictures of my old license, and laid them out. I explained that the wording on the Montana license means it may not be used as ID at federal locations, and that it isn't one of the “real IDs” people were urged to buy. I work with law enforcement, who had seen my ID recently. If anything, I should replace it because it's bent. She argued in front of other people and accused me of “committing fraud.” I asked whether she'd looked it up before calling me. The staff scattered back to their areas while I searched online for why a Montana driver's license says “Not For Federal Identification” and showed her the result. I hope she realized she'd been wrong. It was the most disgraceful treatment I've had at a public establishment. I went back to my room and only left when necessary; I felt very uncomfortable after that. Since they'd charged me for two nights, I felt stuck. At breakfast I was watched like a hawk. Later, asking for fresh towels was uncomfortable too. The housekeeper, who I think was the lead, gave me suspicious looks and spoke rudely. The next morning at 8, I asked her if there was more hot food coming out. She said yes and walked off without filling the chafing dish. When I asked if she'd bring it, she walked away again and got in the elevator. I hope I never have to see either of them again. I went back to the desk to talk to the Manager, but she seemed to be leaving and said she “don't have time.” I told her an apology would have been great and wished her a better evening. She walked away.
