La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Houston NW Brookhollow

I showed up at 11 p.m. with a reservation for two rooms, only to be told they'd been canceled. I never got a cancellation email. The man said he had one room, but I needed two. Then the two guys shut the window on me, said there were no rooms, ignored me and told me to cancel the reservations on my phone. I overheard one of them on the phone telling someone to block all walk-ins and reservations because they had no rooms. So I was left without a room in the middle of the night. Every nearby hotel was booked, and I drove halfway around Houston trying to find somewhere to stay.

We didn't feel safe in the room. The front desk guy was really kind, but there were roaches, black mold in the bathtub, orange residue on the face towels, and black spots on the larger towels. The bed and blankets had dark, chalky spots that rubbed off. The key didn't work, and neither did the lights. Then at checkout, a very angry, large man was shouting that he wanted to leave because, as he put it, “I step 10 feet out of my room and a black woman walks out of my room that I’ve never seen in my life I want to check out.” That was scary too. My husband and I were driving from California to Mississippi and had been stopping at rest areas. We chose this as our first hotel on the trip, and we chose wrong. I'd give it 0/5 if I could. Don't stay here unless you absolutely have to.

The shower knob fell off as soon as I touched it, and the floors hadn't been cleaned, with dead bugs all over. The towels were dirty too. The fridge hadn't been cleaned or even turned on, and the room smelled like smoke despite being marked non-smoking. People hanging around the parking lot made me feel unsafe. This is the most disgusting room I've ever seen. I shouldn't have trusted the positive reviews. The place is disgraceful and should be torn down.

The carbon monoxide alarm went off while we had the AC on. There were black mold-looking spots in the tub and along the outside tile edges. In less than three hours in the room, we saw nine roaches and managed to kill only six. The rooms are dirty, and the staff were irresponsible, unprofessional and unhelpful. This place is a safety hazard. We could possibly never have woken up if we'd stayed the night. I wouldn't recommend it at any price. If I could give zero stars, I would.
