JW Marriott Houston Downtown

I’ve always had good stays here, but the staff really stood out at check-in on 1/26. After a long travel day, I arrived after midnight thinking about how awful the day had been. Then I got to my room and found a great assortment of desserts and a birthday card from the staff. That extra kindness turned the day around and made the travel feel much less bad. Thank you!

The restaurant was cozy and inviting, and the food was delicious. The wait staff were eager to please. Everyone here was courteous and friendly, and my room was serviced daily. The bed was comfortable, and those pillows were out of this world. My work stay was pleasant. The only thing that bothered me was the downtown rail system, which made parking a little inconvenient.

The hotel is very nice, and I liked the staff and how close it is to my Houston office, so I’ll be back. I stayed two nights for work in the building next door, and the room was very much to my liking. Front desk service was good. Breakfast in the Griffin Lounge was my one complaint. It felt short-staffed and chaotic, with guests jostling for food and drinks. The poor woman making omelettes was also fixing the coffee machine, cleaning up the coffee bar, and bussing tables.

We’ve stayed here three times over the past year. We first picked it because MD Anderson is an easy walk away, and came back for the great service and relaxing atmosphere. There’s a garage with reasonably priced parking in an attached building. Since the hotel is on the light rail line, we haven’t driven during any of our stays. In bad weather, the hotel runs a frequent shuttle route to nearby medical facilities. Dining choices around the hotel aren’t plentiful, but there are plenty of options inside. The museum of science is about a mile away on foot or by train, with excellent exhibitions on Egypt and King Tut, as well as the Terracotta Warriors, which are currently on display. They’re all brilliantly presented.
