Sara's Inn On The Boulevard

After the event, a staff member came to my door and spoke rather abruptly to some of the guests in my room. I understood her frustration, but I wish she'd handled it more respectfully, especially since I wasn't hosting the event and the hosts weren't there at the time. Still, I'm very grateful the staff were patient while clearing out the guests and made sure other people at the property could be comfortable. Thank you again for your hospitality, Ms. Paulina. I stayed here over the weekend for an engagement party and would book again if I'm in the area. There were a few problems when I arrived, but the innkeeper apologized and was incredibly helpful in sorting everything out.

The old Victorian inn is beautiful and sits in a lovely neighborhood with a very convenient location. It's clean throughout, and we liked the place, though it could use some TLC. The bathroom needs fresh paint, the beautiful wood floors and stairs need polishing and resealing, and the front porch could use a refresh. We originally assumed it was a B&B from earlier reviews, but they don't serve breakfast. With a little care from the owners, and maybe a return to the B&B format, it could be Houston's premier place to stay.

The hotel's layout caused problems when an event was taking place. There's no separation between the hotel and event space, so a bridal shower guest tried to open my room door at a very unfortunate moment. Luckily, I'd locked it. Later, a very loud baby shower had the catering van blocking the entire parking lot. Staff were hard to find. Over three days and two nights, I saw just two employees for less than 17sec total. Neither greeted us at first, and the second one ignored me until I spoke up. Yet they left an envelope asking for a tip because the room was clean. A tip should be for service beyond the basic job, and you can't really tip staff you don't see. The room itself was tiny, and the decor felt cheap, inconsistent, and a little tacky. The frames were empty, with an obvious “5x7” in the center, and the shower handle had a label from a handheld label printer. I appreciated the room and its location, but the hotel and staff were a mess functionally. My girlfriend thought it looked cute, so the room got three stars.

Lovely place and a good location, but all the stairs and uneven surfaces make it a poor fit for seniors with mobility issues.
