Ms. Debbie was the main reason I'd give this five stars. She was kind, very helpful and quick, and made everything go smoothly. The building is old, the garage elevators felt a little creepy, and the hallways sometimes smelled strange. The laundry area was somewhat dirty, though acceptable. On the good side, the gym and pool area were great, and the view was amazing, the best I've ever had. The apartment was good overall.

The staff are what make my apartment feel like home. They're friendly and helpful, and whenever I've made a maintenance request, it has been answered promptly. The grounds are beautiful and my apartment is spacious. The staff feel more like family. Brenda, our apartment manager, is kind, patient and prompt, as is Ashley, the assistant manager. Debby, the leasing agent, is on point. I've only had to submit one request, and it was handled. This has been the best residential support I've experienced.

I've been here about a month and love living here. Houston House has been a fantastic experience so far, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place to live. Debbie was my main contact and made moving in seamless. She showed me around, explained the required paperwork clearly, and kept in touch with follow-ups to make sure everything went smoothly. The rest of the Houston House staff have been just as friendly and helpful. 10/10!

The 29th-floor view was great, and the location worked well for my downtown commute. Brenda in management also replied quickly whenever I contacted her and seemed to be trying to help. But living at Houston House Apartments for three months during my internship was a really disappointing experience. The roaches were the worst part. I even started sleeping with the lights on because I was sick of finding them on the floors and walls at night. During the day, I saw them coming from all over the apartment. I didn't keep food there and ate out most of the time, partly because work kept me busy, but also because on my first day I cooked a meal and then opened the dishwasher to find roaches crawling over my arm. My unit was sprayed several times a week at one point, so management did try to deal with it, but it seemed like a much bigger building-wide problem. After I moved out, roaches even followed me back to my parents' home. There were a lot of extra fees on top of the rent. The included WiFi was unreliable when it worked, and the AC struggled, leaving the apartment warm and humid on many hot days. Most of the time just one elevator worked, and getting from the lobby to my unit or back could take 10-15 minutes. The elevators often smelled bad or were trashed, and I found dog poop inside more than once. Water was shut off for long stretches with very little notice. The building had a smell that seemed worse whenever the AC started up, the parking garage looked run down with what appeared to be abandoned cars, and amenities were often unavailable. Laundry was a hassle too. There was no washer or dryer in the unit, so one wash and dry cost around $5 or more, and the machines didn't work very well. It felt like camping in the middle of the city: a building that looks cool from outside, with major problems once you're actually living there.

The roaches are a huge problem at Houston House. No matter how much I clean, they keep showing up, and I've seen some units in worse shape than mine when it comes to pests. It would be easy to blame my neighbors, but I think the whole complex is infested, from the basement up to the 30th floor. Having to wake up in the middle of the night to kill them is ridiculous. Residents deserve a better experience, so Houston House needs to do better and get rid of the roaches. I've been staying here since May, and the rent is affordable, with nice views. The staff have been amazing and really nice. They'll work with you if you use some sense, and whenever I've needed something fixed in my unit, the complex has been quick to respond. One of my favorite staff members has left, but the rest are just as great.
