Sonesta Simply Suites Houston – NASA Clear Lake

I traveled with five children for a local robotics competition, and we only learned about the renovations once the whole group had arrived at the front desk. If I’d been told beforehand, I would absolutely have booked another hotel. By then it was impossible to cancel and move somewhere else at the last minute. The renovation work made it hard to reach rooms, and the front entrance couldn’t be used. Construction noise and strong chemical smells continued throughout our stay. One room had a strong, unbearable odor, another had cockroaches, and a third had visible holes and wall damage. The worst part was that staff barged into two rooms late at night. They said the general manager had told them to enter because of an internal booking error. Children were in both rooms and were terrified. There was no warning, and they barely knocked before coming in. This unauthorized late-night entry was a serious safety breach that left the children distressed and made us feel unsafe in the rooms. I reported each issue to the front desk as soon as I found it. They said they’d escalate it to management and contact me, but nobody reached out after checkout or apologized to the children. Two weeks ago, the hotel promised to discuss everything internally and get back to me. I still haven’t heard anything, despite trying several ways to contact them.

There were people hanging around in the parking lot, the staff weren’t friendly, and the halls smelled like cigarettes. At check-in, the woman at the front desk had a serious attitude. There was a stain on the sheets, so my husband went down to exchange them, and they gave him a hard time as if we’d caused it. It was just a one-night stay, but I wouldn’t return. Go somewhere else!

The rooms have what you need, from kitchen sets to an on-site workout facility. The only thing missing is a pool. Josh and the rest of the front desk team are considerate and make you feel welcome when you arrive. This is the cleanest, best-kept hotel or motel I’ve come across. 10/10.

It’s a budget choice if places near or across from the space center don’t work out, and there are quite a few food options close by. The hotel has recently been renovated, though the interior still has that older extended-stay feel, with a fridge, hotplate, coffee maker, and utensils.
