Sonesta Simply Suites Houston W Beltway

The room rate is fair, and the staff at the front desk used to be the best we'd ever encountered. My husband and I have been visiting Houston near Chinatown every month for over a year, and this hotel is conveniently close. The rooms were always neat and clean, too. Lately, though, the desk staff have been rude, the hallways smelled of animal waste, and we had to switch rooms twice because of appliance problems. From the outside it looks like a typical three-star hotel; inside, it felt like the land of the living dead. I'd stay again, yes, in the hope that someone working on the property's progress will try to make changes. A business needs staff who support its progress, not its demise.

The rooms are nice and have the potential to be really clean, and Harmony was amazing with her hospitality. The housekeeping didn't follow through, though. The tubs still had footprints, and I had to buy Ajax and a sponge to clean ours properly. It was very cream-colored when my family and I arrived, but turned super white once I cleaned it. They also didn't provide enough towels, and the shower curtain was dirty. Harmony got us a new curtain, so thank you to her.

For the price, the hotel is good, and it felt safe in the room. Staff were friendly, the place seemed clean, and it smelled nice. But a glass I took from the dishwasher still had lipstick on it. The other guests seemed questionable: someone on the floor was smoking pot, and someone else was smoking cigarettes. In the parking lot I found a full syringe (pic below) and a rope to tie off with. Be careful. This was during the Hurricane Laura evacuation, and they handled a hectic time well while also having covid precautions in place.

They moved me to another room right away, but the first one was nasty, smelled like dog urine, and had a flea moving around in the shower. I don't have pets, so I was really mad they put me in that room. The lobby didn't look very good, and the laundry room wasn't as nice as at other Sonesta hotels. The washers and dryers are free.
