Wyndham Houston near NRG Park/Medical Center

The fire alarm amplifier on the second floor of the left wing, on the four-floor side, was shot and kept making an annoying high-pitched beep. The pool door card reader only works about one time in eight. The elevators throughout the building barely work and feel like a death trap. I wouldn't ride them again even if I were paid. Well, it's slightly better than the connected Wingate, but it's disappointing how little effort seems to go into upkeep. There's a walled-off ballroom on the ninth floor, and where an outdoor elevator used to run, there's now a closet door with the elevator button still there. This place could work, maybe, but it's very dated. Be careful if you book.

The room was clean and had a king bed, a chair, a desk and office chair, and a TV. It was basic, though: a small bathroom where you had to step aside to open or close the door, no mini fridge, and a broken Keurig coffee maker. The front desk didn't answer when I called a few times. Once they did answer, they said they were extremely busy and asked me to call back in 30 minutes. Being so close to the highway also made it noisy, so bring earplugs. We stayed in early March 2026 for the rodeo because this had the best rates within walking distance of NRG Center/Stadium. Parking during the rodeo cost a ridiculous amount. It would be nice if they charged day visitors that rate and not hotel guests. I'd probably stay again for the location, but may check nearby places to see whether they also charge guests extra during events.

Saturday at 11 p.m., we ended up needing two rooms again, with no concession from the hotel. We had to stand in line the next day for fresh linens because service had to be “scheduled,” and the rooms were just as we'd left them. I've never dealt with this kind of deception or unprofessionalism at a hotel, and it doesn't feel like a Wyndham. If you can get a room for $50 a night, fine, otherwise stay somewhere else. We booked by phone and were promised “two queen beds,” but the beds were barely bigger than twins and couldn't fit four adults. We switched to a king room at the same price after being told it would have a pullout sofa. There was no sofa bed, and the hotel wouldn't refund us. The manager never responded to staff, and the MOD reportedly “didn't know the system.” So we wound up having to take two rooms.

A year after staying here for the BBQ cook-off, I saw a $1,400.49 charge on my business credit card on March 1 this year. I hadn't stayed there for a year, but the hotel had kept my card on file and charged it anyway. I spoke with manager Oberlain, who did nothing to help, so I have to dispute it through my card company. These people are crooks!
