The Amelia Hotel

We'd definitely stay again. The staff were helpful and really nice, and the hotel is close to restaurants and shops. Breakfast and the homemade snacks were very nice, too. The sitting rooms are beautifully decorated and great for relaxing. Our room was spacious, with lots of closet space, a comfortable bed and great pillows. The bathroom was large, and the shower was very nice with strong water pressure.

Misty took such good care of us during our Christmas holiday stay, always seeming to anticipate what we might need. The house is gorgeous, and the rooms were spacious, clean, and comfortable. We couldn't have been happier. It felt magical!

The self-serve breakfast in the little downstairs kitchenette was great, with bagels, English muffins, sweet breads, fruit, and granola. The Amelia is a big, beautiful Victorian in a quiet neighborhood, just a few blocks from Warren St. Our Room 8 was large and had a separate bedroom, though the living area was sparsely furnished and not very comfortable. The leather lounger was so stiff and unpleasant we couldn't use it. The windows really disrupted our sleep. On a windy New Year's Eve, one of the 19th-century double-hung windows rattled all night, and we eventually wedged coffee stirrers into the gaps. Another window was open at the top because its sash was broken, making every passing car sound louder. At least there was a space heater to keep us warm. Oddly, Room 8's thermostat is controlled by Room 6. We love historic houses, but not when they keep us awake. Was all that worth $1,186 for two nights? Nope.

We had Room 6, with a stunning view, and the room was comfortable and quiet. The location was perfect. Some of the furniture was scuffed and beat up and could use attention, so I took off one star. I'd love to come back in summer and enjoy the gorgeous pool.
