Quality Inn Hudsonville South

My mom said she'd stay again. She found the staff friendly, enjoyed the breakfast with hot items like eggs and gravy, and thought the beds were extremely comfortable. She also liked the grab bar by the shower. The room was comfortable and mostly clean, though the carpet needed vacuuming and a bit of refreshing. She was concerned that the hotel's side entrance didn't lock, even though a surveillance camera was pointed at it. She didn't use the pool or hot tub, but they looked nice and were in use. The price felt high for this level of hotel, though it was still below many comparable places nearby.

That was the worst hotel breakfast I've ever had. We had to go out to eat in the morning or make do with leftovers from dinner the night before.

The customer service was awesome, the bed was comfortable, the heater and fan were very quiet and pleasant, and the place itself was quiet. Still, we will never go back. We've stayed in hundreds of hotels, and this was the dirtiest, grossest one we've ever been in. There was stuff scattered across the carpet, and we doubt the sheets had been changed. They were all bunched up, with two eyelashes on the fitted sheet and a pube on the top one. We were so grossed out that we slept in our clothes. Breakfast was only cereal and waffles.

For a one-night stop, this was better than sleeping in the car or driving another 10-plus hours to my destination. I worked in pest control for three years, so I look for signs of bugs in hotels. I didn't see bedbugs, roaches, mice, or other bugs. There were spider webs behind the TV stand and nightstands, but that was a minor concern. Each drawer had something that looked like bait, though I can't confirm what it was. I checked behind the mini fridge and microwave, under the sink, and in the bathroom, and found nothing to note. The room did have some cosmetic issues: a bit of carpet missing by the bathroom door, wall lights not fastened properly, and baseboards coming loose, especially at the corners. There was a quick fix behind the curtain above the window, using a very thin board that was attached properly. The bathroom also needed new caulk. I don't mean to sound entirely negative. It wasn't a bad stay, but it wasn't great either. Would I stay again? Maybe.
