Holiday Inn Express Hershey - Harrisburg Area by IHG

The rooms are clean, and the employees are accommodating. The location is tucked back from the road, which keeps it quiet, and the night front desk staff are friendly and efficient. My daughter has stayed here several times while having procedures at Hershey. John Watts, the General Manager, made sure we were accommodated and helped make her trips less stressful. I'm sure we'll stay here again.

Clean rooms and a handy location make this a must-stay for me when I come to Hershey. There's a gas station and convenience store across the street, plus a strip mall with restaurants and shops. The service hasn't wowed me, but they get the job done. I'll definitely be back.

We booked for a youth hockey tournament and specifically requested “Top Floor,” but our whole team was put on the first floor, close to the lobby and pool. It got very loud there. Most of the staff we met were friendly and helpful, though a few seemed visibly annoyed by all the hockey teams and guests tracking snow through the lobby. Our room seemed to be part of ongoing renovations. It had no smoke detector, just wires sticking out of the wall. I reported it, and one was installed quickly. Another team member's heating and AC unit wasn't working. Staff first told them to use a wall thermostat, but nobody could find it. A front desk employee went to the room, looked around, then checked the unit and moved them because its wall plug showed signs of charring. The electrical setup in our room was concerning too. The bathroom light switch didn't always work, and the outlet made noises when we plugged in a hairdryer. The first-floor room and bathroom doors were in poor shape, with peeling and chipped wood panels. Our bathroom handle seemed to have been replaced, but the new one didn't line up with the old holes, leaving a few extra holes drilled through the door. There were no bathroom exhaust fans, so the rooms stayed humid for a long time after showers. The little game room with arcade games was cute, but its door felt dangerous. Someone had cut a hole in a door and tacked in glass instead of using a door with a glass panel. The heavy glass made the door slam and shake badly. Breakfast was good when it was available. On our last morning the cook called out, so all they had was cereal, yogurt, and bread products. With so many hotels around, this one needs to do better. The price doesn't justify overlooking these problems. We booked through a tournament company, but checked prices ourselves afterward and found this hotel isn't cheap.

The rooms were great, and breakfast was well stocked and kept up. I especially liked the extra condiments and the couple of gluten-free options. We stay at Holiday Inn Express often, and this was one of our best visits.
