Best Western Surf City

As a single mom in the middle of moving homes, the $100 deposit matters a lot to me. The employee who checked my room after checkout told me it would be refunded within a few days, but also said he didn’t get to make that decision, even though he was the one who checked me out at the front desk. When I followed up, I was told I wouldn’t get the money back because of an untrue claim that I had vaped in the room. I expected honest, fair communication from Best Western and am disappointed this hasn’t been handled transparently. I was staying at Best Western off Beach Blvd in Huntington Beach while relocating.

The rooms were spacious and very clean, including the bedding, and the staff were attentive and kind from the night we checked in until the morning we left. Chrissy, the supervisor, went above and beyond to make us feel at home and welcome. I’m impressed with this Best Western and its customer service. Thanks to Chrissy for our best stay at your hotel. We’ll be back.

The service and staff were above average. Everyone was pleasant, professional, and smiling, and you can tell the owners are proud of the business they’re building. I’ll make this my new place when I’m down from Portland for business, since my company HQ moved to Costa Mesa. It’s well placed for work in the lower part of the OC, and Pollo Loco next door is a plus for cheap, healthy-ish food. For the price, it’s a find. This three-story outside-access motel is a few miles inland from the HB beach. I like being able to park right in front of a first-floor room instead of trekking through enclosed hallways after a long day. The grounds were impeccably clean and cared for. There’s also a pool and picnic area for nice HB evenings. As of October 2025, the lobby was being renovated and rooms updated. Since the kitchen and dining room were under construction, breakfast was a bag of carbs, but fruit and coffee were available 24/7 at the temporary lobby desk. My updated room was totally fine, with a great bed, hot water, cold AC, and no noise beyond what you’d expect at a motel. It had a coffee maker, fridge, microwave, ironing board and iron, hair dryer, alarm clock, TV, and enough outlets and lamps. WiFi ran at 100Mb/s up and down without a captive gateway, so the connection was solid.

The room was roomy and comfortable, with a spotless, nice shower and a very clean bathroom. The bed had a damp, humid smell that made it less comfortable. Breakfast was a letdown. It was advertised as included but was a very basic cold spread: apple juice, water, a muffin, banana, and yogurt. I understand the lobby or dining area was likely being renovated, but the temporary setup could have been better. I gave it four stars because the room itself was nice, the location was good, and the staff seemed friendly, though the breakfast and bed freshness could improve.
