Hartwood Inn

When my husband, our two little kids, and I broke down on 218, we came here after reading the reviews. The staff were amazing. They insisted on walking us to our room so we wouldn’t have to go through the cold, and when I asked about the nearest gas station, the owner drove me and the kids there to get food. I’ve never had a hotel stay with such personal service. They really care about people. The price was great too. Stay here, you won’t regret it!

I’d stayed here several times over the years without any trouble, but today’s phone call changed that. After about ten rings, a woman answered. She quoted $55 for a room and confirmed they still had continental breakfast. When I asked whether the pool was still there and if it would be repaired, she snapped, “Are you going to book a room or not?” I said I was just curious about the pool, and she hung up. I called back, and she said she was very busy and was the owner, then told me she’d refuse me service and hung up again. I’ve seen a similar story in a recent Google review. I can’t tell whether it was arrogance or laziness, but she clearly had no interest in helping me make a booking.

The people running this place are really nice and accommodating, but the property is old and run down and needs major upgrades. The shower didn’t even have a showerhead, which was ridiculous. Someone also let the air out of my Rig’s tire. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra $20 to stay somewhere else.

It’s dated, though clean, and sits across the street from the river. Rates are reasonable, and they have smoking rooms. We were on the lower level near the middle, and every toilet flush sounded like it was blasting through an echo chamber in the wall, though our location may have contributed. The beds were newer, springy, and firm.
