Plantation Motel

After a full day of fishing, this place was just right. The rooms were comfortable, the water was hot, and there was Wi-Fi. We could park our boat and plug it in. I'd stay here again.

We had a great first stay and plan to come back next time. The room was clean and stocked well, and the owner and housekeeping staff were friendly. We enjoyed finding treasures on the beach, and the motel is close to various attractions in a beautiful area. The price is hard to beat, especially for a larger family like ours, since hotel and motel stays are usually unaffordable for us.

I wouldn't recommend this place, especially to women of color. I paid for a month, but the owner harassed us repeatedly, yelled at us, degraded us, and eventually threw us out in the middle of winter even though we'd paid for another two weeks. He called me a liar over the number of guests: I'd first called for information as one person, not to reserve, then changed plans because the property was so far out and didn't want to be alone. I checked in with my two registered ESA dogs. His posted animal rules say pets must be crated if left in the room. My dogs aren't pets, never defecated in the room or bothered anyone, didn't bark, and I cleaned up after them. I believe he had a problem with us because we're Black. While we were away, he went into the room and crouched in the doorway talking to someone off camera. I had set my phone to record because I expected him to be sneaky. On video, he says there are two dogs running loose and not in a cage. I've never crated either of my girls. He then called to threaten a dog warden and said my dogs would be taken if I didn't return right away. I called the police. He told them he knew the dogs weren't crated because the curtains were open, but the video clearly shows they were closed. The police agreed it was him on the recording and that the curtains were shut. My dogs both later had diarrhea, though I hadn't changed their food or given them anything extra. I have the video of him in the room and showed it to the police. He yelled at us about putting trash in the garbage by the room door, saying we had to cross the parking lot to the dumpster. I have that on video too. We were quiet, made no mess or noise, didn't have company, and cleaned up after the dogs, so I don't know what we did to keep him from running a decent establishment. He demanded to see my paperwork, which he had no legal right to do. I showed it to the police, and he had no legal right to put us out. I'm in a wheelchair. When he made us leave, I had no money left after spending it all on a month's stay. His wife contacted someone named Ricardo in the Sandusky area, who helped me get my wheelchair and our things and find another room until our planned checkout date. They only clean on Fridays in the off season, but he still thinks he can enter your room any day while you're gone. No wonder he wants dogs crated, so he doesn't get bitten while going through your room. It's beautiful out there, but the owner is disrespectful and a liar. I have it all on video.

It's a small, comfortable place by the lake, and we got a good price. We had a great stay and would book it again if we're back in the area.
