Super 8 Hutchinson

The innkeeper was the highlight of our stay. My brother had just been discharged from the local hospital after surgery, and my wife and aunt booked a room for us to stay in before heading home. He and I had been at the hospital, then he was released early and came with us. He looked badly injured, and when we asked about the extra charge for him staying, the kind young innkeeper said money wasn’t the main thing and wanted to know if he was okay. Once we explained that he’d just left the hospital and wasn’t in need of hospital care, she was compassionate and welcoming. The room was clean and modern, and breakfast was tasty with a good range for a standard continental spread. But her genuine hospitality mattered far more than the transaction or the room rate. I’d gladly check here first if I need a room in Hutchinson Kansas again. Compassion and hospitality are worth more than money. I wish I could give ten stars, but five is the most allowed.

We had a great three-night stay here, and it was close to everything we needed. The rooms were comfortable and very clean, and breakfast was decent. Don’t be put off by the outside.

The one good thing was that the air conditioning worked. The location was convenient for our needs, but the stay cost more than it was worth. I barely slept because of noise from the hall and the rooms above and below us. Every time we rolled over, the bed frame made sounds like gunshots. The mattress was lumpy and uncomfortable, and the sheets and bedding didn’t seem fresh or clean. Staff knew little about the area. The place felt old, dated, and scary. Don’t let the photo fool you. It needs to be bulldozed.

The price was reasonable, so I figured you get what you pay for. At first the rooms looked clean and there were no bedbugs, but the bathroom ceiling had mold from poor ventilation, and the room smelled like people had smoked in it. I’m updating this after our last night. The rooms were both smoky-smelling and musty. At 1 a.m., water poured from the ceiling into the bathtub and ran down the bathroom door. Management said it happened because people had left the shower curtain outside the tub, but I don’t think that would explain the amount of water we saw. Breakfast was pretty subpar too, so I’d find food elsewhere. I’d give it a -1 if I could. Stay away.
