Governor's House in Hyde Park

The English Country Dancing Suzanne planned was my favorite part of the Persuasion weekend. We laughed, danced, and had one of the best times ever. I also loved “Jane Austen at the piano,” hearing an accomplished pianist play music from the period and explain how it influenced Jane Austen's writing. Suzanne’s knowledge, care for her guests, and attention to detail were a pleasure to experience. The rooms, home, and dinners were all charming, and the weekend taught me about the history, customs, traditions, and etiquette of the time. Spending time away from screens and life’s busy hubbub felt refreshing, even healing. I talked with close friends I’ve known for decades and met new people from around the country over meals and a lively game of Whist. Susanne was a terrific hostess and easy to talk with. The rooms were very clean, she kindly let us keep our bikes in her garage, and breakfast was ready before we continued our ride. We’d been cycling the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail and needed somewhere for the night. Good reviews led us to Governor’s House, and we weren’t disappointed. I’d certainly recommend staying at this historic place.

The English room at Governor’s house was beautiful, and the owner was so helpful and sweet. Breakfast included lovely French toast and homemade orange cranberry muffins. My husband and I had one of our best recent experiences here. It’s quite close to Stowe, and I think everyone should experience a place like this at least once.

My mom and I had full tea in the library this afternoon, with delicious tea, sandwiches, scones, and sweets. The owner also took us around the beautiful historic home, pointing out its intricate details and telling us about its history and restoration. We highly recommend visiting The Governor's House!
